Villagers wrongfully accused of torching bridge & machineries

Reacting to a request by the villagers of Melikin, Balai Ringin, DAP Sri Aman Chief Leon Jimat Donald went to Danau Melikin to investigate the so-called torching incident by the protesters from Melikin.

Having talked to the people/villagers of Danau Melikin, we have found out that the protesters did not destroy & burned down the tractors & the bridges. In fact it was done by the Indonesian workers of the company United Team Trade because they were demanding their salary which was overdue by 6 months.

The protesters have denied any wrongdoing and their only claim to their infamy is they have set-up blockades & camped out at the Land & Survey HQ for 3 nights & 4 days last DUN sitting.

The Company United Team Trade has conveniently put the blame on the protesters because the village folk are the ones who have been opposing the UTT from encroaching into their NCR land. The real perpetrators are no where to be seen as they have fled across the border which is just a few kilometers from there; said Anthony Singha, one of the leaders of the protesters.

DAP Sri Aman would like to remind the Company UTT to not make false accusations towards the protesters as they are only defending their own NCR land from encroachment by the company. The villagers have reinterated that they do not need to resort to foul & aggressive methods to aggravate the situation further. It is the protesters that were on the receiving end where one of the leader of the protesters Hilux was badly damaged by arsonists who attempted to blow it up using a petrol bomb early in the morning at 3.40 am last July. The incident is still under investigation.
